what readers are saying
I'm an avid reader and grew up with sci-fi as my favorite genre, gradually moving more toward fantasy. This book is science-fiction with a bit of fantasy added, so it really grabbed my attention.
Shortly after starting to read the book, I found myself hardly able to put it down.
Cast sometime in the future when travel across time has become possible, Time Before Time moves across the preceding 250 million years and provokes thought regarding ancient highly-advanced civilizations, their demises, and how postulated extinction events played a part in the seemingly inexplicable time-line of earth's history.
I found Time Before Time to be very engaging and unique, and I highly recommend it. I have drifted away from my earlier days as a sci-fi enthusiast, but I can tell you that if a sequel to this book is ever released, I'll be on the pre-order list.
Wonderful mix of time travel, ancient civilizations, suspense and adventure. Action packed. Never a dull page
"It’s really very simple, time is its own dimension. After discovering this, I’ve found a way to move outside of that dimension."
Infused with the spirit of the time travel classic Back to the Future, this engaging narrative takes readers on an adventure featuring a stubborn but relentlessly brilliant scientist whose insistence on peeling back the veil to see the multitude of worlds and their cataclysmic events jeopardizes the time continuum. What’s worse is the risk of advanced technology from the future falling into the hands of ancient races predisposed to abusing its power.
The character of Emerson Whitmore drives the storyline. He is always a step ahead of his contemporaries. When he calls upon the services of John Chantry, a veteran of the Elite Special Forces of the Space Rangers, a dynamic duo of Whitmore’s brains and Chantry’s brawn is established. Though Whitmore is married to his theories, seeing a “mad genius” develop a meaningful bond is refreshing. He and John initially travel to the late nineteenth century, where they stop a family from being ambushed by bandits. Later, they run into their own ordeal when trying to bring back enough gold—from an era where gold’s existence is limited only to the indigenous people—to fund the continued evolution of Whitmore’s time travel work. The outcome, rather hilariously, is the duo’s portrayal as gods in the eyes of the natives.
When Whitmore and Chantry run into the Colonel and become privy to the impact of the Krolls and the Earth Management Project, tough decisions must be made. Nevertheless, true to his nature, Whitmore is unyielding in his efforts to unravel and experience millions of years of the world’s history. A mastermind in every respect, he has planned for every setback only to come back even stronger. Ultimately, the combination of endearing characters, a plausible time travel concept, and a thought-provoking timeline delivers a compelling experience for all audiences.
Time Before Time is a compelling sci-fi novel written by Dan Dubose and Beau Dubose. Here, the authors introduce readers to Emerson Whitmore, an elite scientist whose unusual theories are strongly disputed by his mainstream scientist peers and nearly jeopardize his long-standing career. Whitmore holds a unique hypothesis that long before the existence of modern-day humankind, great and advanced civilizations had been developed and flourished for thousands of years before the catastrophic great cataclysm.
The professor consequently decides to build a time machine which could take him back in time to confirm his firm convictions. He goes ahead and hires John Chantry, a well-built man, who had served in the Special Services Division as a hand-to-hand combat and survival instructor for the All Service Command, and whose experience would come in handy during the mission. The journey held many exciting possibilities for Whitmore but also had equal measures of risk none of them had comprehended.
Time Before Time is a razor-sharp novel that cleverly doles out pieces of the time travelers’ backstories and information about the mission they are about to embark on, by tossing in curve balls and judiciously employing ample dialogue. This also helps break the tension as the story rollicks to an unanticipated conclusion. Lucid, as well as exhilarating, this majestic work unfolds into a cinematic and heady mix which boldly interweaves time travel, history, archeology, suspense, adventure, and thrill. The landscapes they transverse in space are vividly drawn and the extrapolated technologies infused in the narrative are well-explained and plausible.
Time Before Time by Dan Dubose and Beau Dubose makes for a scintillating and insightful read which takes readers on a journey to explore the unknown in the comfort of your armchair. The text offers an absorbing exploration of the Universe that might jiggle your digital knowledge but does so in a domestic style. I highly recommend this text to sci-fi enthusiasts.

Time Before Time is a gripping time travel fiction by Dan DuBose and Beau DuBose. Controversial Professor Emerson Whitmore believes that advanced civilizations existed on earth before modern-day humankind. His peers and mainstream scientists strongly dispute this hypothesis. This hypothesis has even made him kicked out of a teaching role at the university. Consequently, he develops a time machine, a self-powered pod, to take him to the past to confirm that he is right. Since this expedition could have potential dangers, the professor also hires a military veteran, John Chantry. Together, the duo embarks on a journey to the past – one whose outcome is unknown. What will they find out?
There were several things I liked about this novel. First, I liked the various technologies depicted and how their operating mechanisms were well explained. We are introduced to high-tech, sophisticated machines, weapons, and technologies that solve problems that are still beyond the contemporary world. Second, I liked that the story picked up immediately; the authors did not waste any time before introducing the main conflict, making this story exquisitely fast-paced. Another thing that stood out for me about this book was how action-packed it was. The action-packed moments made the book interesting, engrossing, and hard to put down. I also liked how well-organized the scenes were. The organization and the short, engrossing chapters kept me glued as I waited to uncover the ending. All this enhanced my reading experience.
My favorite aspect of this book was how the authors expertly fused fantasy, time travel, science fiction, history, and archaeology to come up with a stimulating read. The characters were also well-developed and given sufficient backstories. These added to my enjoyment of this remarkable novel.
Overall, there was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. I found some errors, but they were not enough to influence my final rating. I believe the book was professionally edited. Therefore, I am pleased to give it the highest score of four out of four stars. This book deserves each of those the stars I've awarded it.
I highly recommend this book to fans of fast-paced, action-packed, and well-written novels. In particular, readers who like science fiction, fantasy, archaeology, the history of ancient civilizations, and stories featuring intergalactic wars will greatly appreciate it. The world-building is excellent, the characters are well-developed, and it is interesting to read. I am looking forward to reading more works by the authors.
